Energy Types

The energy types in World of Vigor are numerous, but each one connects to the other in some facet except Aether and Miasma - which oppose each other but also enhance the other energy types. Gaian is essentially the source of the primary energy types; without Gaian energy being generated by the planet and its living things, there would be no Mana or Ki. Ki may seem like standalone energy, but it is still created from Gaian energy; what is consumed to empower the body is made from Gaian energy.

Each energy interacts with one another differently: Gaian energy overpowers Ki and Mana while Ki and Mana cancel each other out. Aether and Miasma can enhance the abilities of any of the three base energies but beat Ki and Magic. Aether, Miasma, and Gaian energy clash, results in a tie amongst the energies in power while Cosmic energy beats all the base energy types.

^Gaian

Gaian is the energy of the collective, the food chain, an entire forest, the entire ocean. Users of this energy type become one with the earth. All is one. One is all. You are no longer an individual, you are one with nature. It’s not just about you; it’s about the world. You’re tied to the life and death of entire ecosystems. This connection stems from an attunement to the workings of the land, a strong bond with nature. In order to replenish Gaian energies, one must seek out a place steeped in its energy - a place of natural beauty and bountiful in lifeforce that connects all things. While within these territories of Gaian energy, one must open themselves to the world around them. When it comes to the manipulation of elements, Gaian energy allows the direct manipulation of the elements around them. Gaian energy requires the presence of the users’ natural element.

^Ki

Ki is the energy and potential of an individual, manifested by their spirit. Those who have a sense of self-awareness often have an easier time utilizing Ki. Ki comes from the individual, as such the abilities are usually restricted to what the individual can modify or project from their body as opposed to their surroundings. In order to restore one’s Ki reserves, it takes focus and meditation. The goal of meditation is to promote the regeneration of the energy by turning to the betterment of the self and tapping into the spark of life within to kindle the flames. When applying this logic to the elements, the users of Ki use their spirit within to project their natural element.

^Mana

Mana is a forever present energy; it always appears within the atmosphere and is accessible to all. However, unlike Gaian and Ki, you cannot find this source within bodies. It is instead something which is produced from the end of one’s life cycle; the energy of a person’s soul becomes mana when they die. It is remnants of various beings that once lived. Their power is released into the air as they move on to the next plane (wherever that may be). Ever-present Mana allows the conjuration of the user’s natural element seemingly from nothing.

^Cosmic

The cosmos is the collection of stars and planets beyond our own. Cosmic energy is exactly that, the energy that resides in the brightly-burning stars in our universe; it is related to Gaian energy but on a much larger scale. The same way the planet is able to emit Gaian energy, other planets and stars emit their own. Those who utilize this energy are capable of reality-bending effects. In order to recharge Cosmic energy, the individual must tap into the vast expanse of space. This feat is not easily achievable to all but the most experienced Cosmic users; most require complete silence and darkness in order to tap into the flow of the universe.

^Aether

Aether itself is the equivalent of Gaian energy but for heaven. The heavenly beings that utilize it take from the energy that is within heaven and channel it into holy light. Usually bestowed upon devoted individuals, Aether comes from the heavens which sit above everyone. It is the holy light which angels skillfully wield and is directly produced by the realm of Heaven. Any usage of it is pulled straight from the realm. Generally those blessed with the energy have made a peaceful deal with the heavenly beings or have been directly gifted this power. Aether can be seen as tangible positive energy, which is what most users choose to channel when invoking its power. With its purifying glow, it can heal but also destroy corruption standing in its path. Restoration of Aether within the body requires a connection to the realm of heaven; this is done through connection to a heavenly being.

^Miasma

Miasma is the energy that is in the realm of hell, it is the collection of energies within that plane. Normally obtained by a deal with one of many demons or through great personal sacrifice, the powers of the Miasma are harnessed typically by those who crave power. Miasma is the manifestation of negative energy hovering within the realm of Hell (much like Gaian energy). Ripped straight from the gates of Hell, this dark energy is often not given as graciously as Aether. Instead if one fails to barter with a demon, they simply steal it for themselves. No matter what sin inspired them to do so, this destructive force carries ailments, negativity, and corruption looking to eat up every ounce of light. In order to replenish one’s source of Miasma, the individual usually takes the time to channel and fuel their dark desires and twisted fantasies. Alternatively, more deals can be made with the denizens of hell for more power.
